Just another day, another strange issue.
I am not able to add Rules to the search scope. Search scopes can be created with out issues, but that the rules cannot be added and throws the following error:
No errors in the event viewer and nothing in the ULS. After spending a couple of days scratching my head, I got a clue and now figured out that the issue is occurring only on one web server and not the other one. This narrowed down the scope of the issue and lead me to compare the differences between the two nodes.
The certificate for Office Server Web Services was not valid.
Resolution
Add a valid certificate for the web service. If needed, import the corresponding root and intermediate certificates as well.
Once this is done, adding rules for search scopes were successful.
